Can Man City win the Champions League?

Since the arrival of the football mastermind, Guardiola, City fans have started to believe that this is their era in the football world. Man City in recent years under Pep Guardiola have achieved many records. Though when he arrived in 2016 he was not able to lift a single trophy with the club. Since then he has made many changes in the playing system. Pep believes in the ideology of keeping the ball. Dominating the possession can lead to various chances on goal. This will help the team to win.

Guardiola has bought in players from different teams across the globe to Man City who are a perfect fit for his style. This includes the main goalkeeper Ederson. Ederson has the ability to read the game from his positions and can also provide the ball into the attacking areas which can be dangerous for the oppositions. Ederson has shown his ability to kick the ball long and also assisted the players a few times.

This shows how Pep wants everyone on his side to stick to his plan. Since a disappointing first season, he has improved the quality of City’s game and pushed other teams in the league as well. City with the ball are very dangerous and can annoy the opposition just by passing the ball in their midfield. He has now lifted 3 Premier League trophies with Man City in the last four years. In total, he has won 10 trophies with City since he has been in charge. Guardiola has transformed City from a mediocre team to title contenders.

He has broken many records with them in the league. His side became the first team in the history of the English Premier League to reach 100 points. They have been now titled as the Centurions. He also dominated the English domestic league tournament also known as EFL or Carabao Cup. He won the tournament 4 times on a roll. Taking their record to eight titles for which they are tied with Liverpool.

Man City have been performing exceptionally well in England. The problem arrives in Europe. Though being the favourites to win the Champions League for many years, City have failed to fill these criteria. Guardiola in the first 4 seasons managed to take City only till the quarterfinals. They were not able to go past the quarter-final stage.

City still somehow managed to reach the Semi-Finals of Champions league when they were managed by Manuel Pellegrini where Real Madrid showed them the exit. In the last season, City were doing excellent in England as well as Europe. They topped their group very comfortably. Performed well in the Knockout stages as well. They overcame a challenging team like Dortmund in the quarterfinals to book a spot in the semis for the second time in their history. They defeated a powerful PSG over two legs in the semis and qualified for the Finals for the first time.

This did not have a fairy tale ending as their dream of conquering Europe was crushed by a side which was led by Tuchel, Chelsea. The all English final was worth a watch as both teams displayed good football but in the end it favoured Chelsea.

With the club record signing of £100 million Jack Grealish, this season many believe it is their season. Football pundits have already announced Man City as the favourites to win the Champions League. Currently, at the top of their table in the Premier League, they feel the job is half done. In the UCL they have progressed to the knockout stage while topping their group.

It is said that when a team loses from a very close margin, they come back stronger. In the ongoing season, it seems that City are pushing for the UCL cup with full determination.
